Incident

Issues with message rendering

Issue summary:
On April 2, 2024 from 2:50 PM PDT to 6:04 PM PDT, customers may have encountered missing messages in channels and conversations, as well as error messages in the Activity and Threads views.

A code change inadvertently caused a rendering loop, preventing the Slack desktop client from correctly displaying some messages. We reverted the code change and rolled back to an earlier version, resolving the issue for all affected customers.

7:47 PM PST

The fix is now rolling out to everyone and the issue has been resolved. Slack will automatically fetch this update, or you can reload Slack with Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + R to pick it up straight away.

Thank you for bearing with us, we appreciate it.

6:44 PM PST

We have released a fix and it will begin gradually rolling out to everyone shortly. To pick up this change immediately, please refresh Slack with Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + R. Slack will reload but won't sign you out.

We'll provide another update once the rollout is underway.

6:21 PM PST

We believe we've identified the cause of the issue, and we're working to deploy a fix.

We have also identified additional symptoms of this issue — customers may be running into an error message in the Activity or Thread views. The fix will address both aspects.

Thank you for bearing with us. We'll be back with an update in 30 minutes.

5:46 PM PST

Some customers may be experiencing issues with messages loading in Slack. Messages may appear missing or blank. We're on the case and working to investigate as fast as we can.

We apologize for the disruption.
