Custom emoji not loading

From 2:00 PM PST on February 9, 2025, to 8:24 PM PST on February 11, 2025, some users experienced issues with custom emoji failing to load.
A backend process responsible for handling custom emoji was experiencing an unexpected spike of requests, resulting in a backlog. This backlog primarily caused delays with recently added emoji.
We made a change to restart emoji rendering jobs to help with request traffic, resolving the issue for all affected users.

We resolved the issue users were experiencing with recently uploaded emoji loading in Slack. We apologize for any disruptions to your day and appreciate your patience as we sorted this out.
3:11 PM PST
The emoji issue appears to be limited to very recently uploaded custom emoji. We have identified a few delayed backend processes as a possible cause.
We have restarted these processes and though they are now updating correctly we will monitor to ensure that emoji are loading as the changes deploy.
4:05 PM PST
We are receiving reports from users that custom emoji are not loading. We are looking in to this and will report back when we have more information.
