We made a change and are seeing signs of improvement across Slack. Users will see success in sending messages, loading channels, threads, canvases, and Activity, as well as client boots.

  • Current status and recent actions taken: We're monitoring health metrics and are working to resolve a small backlog of queued items.
  • Scope: This was not affecting any specific region, but a percentage of users may have been affected globally.
  • Previous impact to end users: Affected users may see success in sending messages, loading channels, Activity, or threads, loading canvases, and booting their clients.
  • Required resolution steps: None.

Update

Our investigation is ongoing, but we believe our engineering efforts are moving us closer to resolution.

  • Current status and actions being taken: We are rolling out a change that should resolve the issue for users.
  • Estimated time to resolution: We believe this will be resolved within the next 20 minutes.
  • Scope: This is not affecting any specific region, but a percentage of users may be affected globally.
  • Current impact to end users: Users will face issues booting the client, messages failing to send, API calls failing, channels and threads failing to load, application failing to run, canvas/lists not loading and Activity may not load.
  • Known workarounds: None at this time.

We'll continue to provide updates every 30 minutes until the impact is resolved for all users.

Update

Our investigation is ongoing, but we have determined that our backend database routing is contributing to error spikes with many Slack features.

  • Current status and actions being taken: We are working at identifying impact, resolving routing issues, and are closely monitoring error rates.
  • Estimated time to resolution: No ETA at this time.
  • Scope: This is not limited to a region and is impacting a percentage of users globally. We are working to determine full impact. (EDIT: We previously mentioned all users were affected and have adjusted to more accurately reflect the situation.)
  • Current impact to end users: Users face issues booting the client, messages failing to send, channels and threads failing to load, applications failing to run.
  • Known workarounds: None at this time.
