Trouble Loading or Connecting to Slack

On July 30, 2025, from approximately 3:29 PM PDT to 3:53 PM PDT, some users experienced issues with various Slack features, including loading the app, connecting, sending and receiving messages, and using search and workflows.

A recent change to a backend caching system introduced a configuration mismatch. This led to an overwhelming number of requests made to a primary database that supports several Slack features, causing some requests to timeout, creating errors within the app. To help alleviate immediate impact, we quickly increased resources, allowing it to stabilize.

By 3:53 PM PDT, we had a clearer understanding of the user impact and symptoms, allowing us to communicate with affected users through our status site. At the same time, we rolled back to a confirmed working version of Slack, restoring full functionality to affected features. We then monitored additional logging & metrics for a duration of time before declaring the issue fully resolved at around 4:28 PM PDT.
